5 Reasons to chase carp on the fly (persuasive)

Carp are one of the most hated fish in freshwater. They are often labeled as a trash fish, bottom feeder, and people often toss them on the bank to let them die. Well here's why I think that carp are one of the best game fish in the US, and why I chase them.

1. Availability:
Carp are the most widespread fish in the US, and they live pretty much every where. Chances are if you have a pond or lake within 10 miles of your house, it has carp in it.

2. Size:
Carp get big. I mean really big. Even a small carp is often going to be 5-7 lbs, and compared to most other species that people fish for, that is huge! Add to that that these fish can reach 40+lbs, and you have a huge fish on your hands.

3: Different methods:
Carp can be caught many ways. While most people think of corn on a hook, European style fishing is starting to make an entrance into the US scene, and carp on a fly rod are about as fun as it gets! sight fishing big fish in skinny water with light gear is always a blast!

4: The fight:
When was the last time you had a trout take you into your backing? How about a bass? Well with carp you're going to be seeing that backing pretty consistently. They have no issue running more than 200 feet, and hooking into one is comparable to hooking into the tailgate of a Mac truck. It just doesn't stop!

5: Looks:
I know that I'm going to loose some people here, but carp are pretty cool looking in their own special way. Bright orange tails, golden olive bodies, symmetrical scales, and in the case of mirrors, weird scale variations. Carp are a pretty cool fish.

Well there's 5 reasons I love carp, and I guarantee you that if you give them a shot, you'll get hooked too!
